How Towing Prices Work

Towing prices are usually built from a base hookup fee plus distance and any extra work required.

Published · MyTow

The hookup or base fee

Most tows start with a base fee that covers dispatching the truck and securing your vehicle.

Loaded distance

The distance your vehicle travels on the truck — from pickup to drop-off — is typically a major part of the price.

Other factors

  • Vehicle size and weight
  • Special equipment such as a flatbed or dollies
  • Winching or recovery work
  • Access difficulty, like underground parking
  • Time of day and urgency

Know your rights in Ontario

Ontario has introduced tow operator certification and consumer protection rules for towing. Review the Government of Ontario's current towing guidance and ask for pricing before you agree to a tow.

Getting a clear price

Share accurate details in your request — location, destination and vehicle — so pricing can be confirmed before service.
