Get to safety first
If the engine stops in traffic, use your remaining momentum to coast to a safe spot away from live lanes. Turn on your hazard lights and stay clear of moving traffic.
Confirm you are actually out of fuel
- Check the fuel gauge and any range estimate.
- Rule out a dead battery or another no-start issue.
- Confirm which fuel type your vehicle uses before requesting delivery.
How fuel delivery works
A provider brings a measured amount of the correct fuel directly to your location. The amount is intended to get you to the nearest station so you can fill up properly. Regular, premium and diesel are commonly available.
Avoiding the next time
- Refuel before the tank gets very low, especially before long or rural drives.
- In cold weather, keep a little more fuel in reserve than usual.
- Plan fuel stops on unfamiliar routes.
