Vehicle Transport Guide: Moving a Car

Not every vehicle move is an emergency. Whether you are relocating, delivering a purchase or moving a project car, scheduled transport is a different process from roadside towing. This guide explains how it works.

When transport makes sense

Vehicle transport is for planned moves rather than breakdowns at the roadside. It is commonly used for relocations, dealer transfers, auction purchases and vehicles that are not currently driveable.

  • Local moves across the city or region.
  • Provincial moves between cities in Ontario.
  • Cross-border moves where permitted.

How the process works

You provide the pickup and delivery locations and a preferred timeframe. The move is then matched with a carrier and scheduled for a time that suits you. An up-front quote is provided before you confirm.

What affects the approach

  • The distance between pickup and delivery.
  • Whether the vehicle runs and drives or needs to be winched.
  • The vehicle's size, weight and clearance.
  • Access at the pickup and delivery points.

Preparing your vehicle

A little preparation helps the move go smoothly. Remove personal belongings, note the odometer reading, and make sure the vehicle is accessible at the scheduled time. Confirm any access restrictions such as a low parkade or a narrow driveway before the carrier arrives.
